Washington, Feb 1, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The proposal put forward by Japanese automaker Toyota Motor to repair the faulty accelerator pedals, has been approved by the U.S. transportation department, an official of the department has reportedly revealed. The development is expected to go a long way in mending the millions of vehicles that have been recalled by the car company owing to a defect that could result in the accelerator pedals being sticky.
The automobile maker has stated that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has given its approval for the remedy to the sticky accelerator pedals. However, the NHTSA officials have revealed that although Toyota Motor has shared its plan for fixing the defect, the safety agency does not formally approve such kind of fixing measures.
At the same time, it has also come to light that the Japanese automakers would be transporting the repair parts to the dealers by February 8 although the date when the dealers would actually start receiving the repair parts could not be confirmed.
Meanwhile, Brian Lyons, the spokesperson of Toyota Motor has refused to divulge intrinsic details about the immediate steps that the car company intends to take to address the issue. However, the spokesperson added that the auto maker would be making announcements about its deployment plans some time soon.
Toyota Motors recalled around 2.3 million cars and trucks in the United States on January 21 due to a faulty part that could cause gas pedal system to get stuck resulting in an increased acceleration, which effected around eight car models. Since then dealers and Toyota car owners have been hoping for measures to fix the defect.
