Feb 5, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Troubled Japanese carmaker Toyota Motors seems to have more problems in store. The Company which is struggling to maintain its image in the international market after a massive global recall affecting 8 of its popular models is likely to call back Prius, which is its flagship model in Japan and abroad. The Prius is a hybrid vehicle which Toyota has used to project its image of an environment conscious automaker so far. It has also been reported that Toyota is examining a brake problem in its Lexus hybrid, a luxury car.
A top newspaper of Japan has also reported that Toyota may inform the U.S. Department of Transportation and transport ministry of Japan about a recall of Prius vehicles. It will affect almost 270,000 cars. However, the Toyota representatives remain tight lipped about the Prius recall. The earlier recall affecting millions of Toyota cars was due to a gas pedal problem. It forced the company to recall some of its most popular models including the Camry and Corolla. The recall has also made some of the existing Toyota users confused as they are yet to be informed whether their models fall under this recall or not.
The recall may tarnish the image of the carmaker, which has been known as a company making safe and reliable cars. The problems of brake using have been reported by some Prius users in Japan and USA and Toyota has not taken any chances with these complaints. The company needs to resolve the issue fast or else rivals like Ford and GM will take the advantage.
