Toyota To Recall 2.3 Million Cars In USA

Jan 22, (THAINDIAN NEWS) In a new development that can come as a blow to its image, leading car maker Toyota Motors has announced a recall of its vehicles. The recall is meant for the Toyota car users in USA. The fault in those vehicles is related with the accelerator pedals. Toyota has acknowledged that it can lead to safety problems for the drivers of those cars and trucks. The announcement was made on Thursday. This is the second time the car-manufacturer is recalling its cars for manufacturing defect. This is a challenge for the company as its sales figures in the USA remains far from encouraging.
The Toyota models that will be affected by the new recall are RAV4, Corolla, Matrix, Camry, Avalon, Tundra and Highlander. The accelerator pedals in these Toyota models are prone to get depressed which can cause unwanted acceleration. In the last year some incidents of Toyota car crashes were reported. It has been found that a large number of these accidents were caused by loose floor mats affecting the accelerator pedal. It is quite ironical that Japan based Toyota Motors built its reputation in the US car market for the safety and reliability of its vehicles. This recall may tarnish its image.
Jon Hanson, a spokesperson for the company said in his statement that the company is trying to find a solution for the problem. He also said that the owners of the vehicles to be recalled would be contacted by the company directly. It is not yet known if Toyota blames the supplier that provided the gas pedal system or would continue business with it.
