Toyota recalls 1 mn Corolla and Matrix models
August 27th, 2010 - 12:46 am ICT by IANSWashington, Aug 26 (DPA) Japanese carmaker Toyota Thursday ordered a recall of more than 1 million Corolla and Matrix models in North America, adding to safety woes that have plagued the world’s largest carmaker for the past year.
Toyota in a statement said it was recalling 1.13 million of the models from the years 2005-2008 over a problem with the electric circuitry, which in extreme cases could cause the engine to stall while driving.
Toyota said three accidents and one minor injury had allegedly been linked to the defect, though whether the mechanical fault was to blame had yet to be confirmed.
The problem is not related to the sticky accelerator pedals and loose floor mats that caused Toyota to recall more than 8 million vehicles earlier this year and dented its reputation for quality.
