Aug 27, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Toyota is trying its level best to restore its tarnished image in the market after the infamous recall saga. The Japanese car giant once known for manufacturing the most stable and reliable cars in the market has been haunted by a massive recall of it popular models since the early part of 2010. In a latest development Toyota is going to fit new engines in its popular hybrid model Prius that is reported to be noisier. The purpose of fitting in the noisy engine is that the pedestrians would have no problem in hearing its sound and they may not fall in its way. The car has won the accolades from the green lobbies for its less carbon footprint but some critics feel its noiseless engine may put the safety of the pedestrians at risk.
The noise generators on the engine of the new Prius will get activated when the car runs on electric power and the speed is low. The Prius can run on both electric power and fuel. At slower speeds it automatically converts to electric mode and becomes almost noiseless. A Toyota spokesperson has said that the sound will be like humming similar to that of space age cars. The so called pedestrian warning system in Prius has been kept as an optional feature though.
The noise will alter depending on the speed fluctuation as the company has said. In Japan one can get the system installed in the cars for $148 as it has been reported. However, Toyota is not the only company that is coming up with this feature. Chevrolet is going to equip Volt with this feature as well.
