Mar 24, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Troubled Japanese automaker Toyota is trying to woo back the disgruntled customers with a number of add-on packages and offers on its cars. The carmaker is still trying to bounce back from a recall affecting several million of its cars worldwide. It has also been sued by a section of its irate shareholders of late. The company has asked the dealers to change the accelerator pedals in its cars in case the buyers are not happy with the way the pedals have been repaired. The shares of Toyota rose slightly after the announcement was made. Incidentally, the pedal recalls affected 8 models of the company including the flagship model Prius.
The company had to recall its cars in phases in various countries including the USA. The cars that were recalled were vulnerable to develop unwanted acceleration owing to sticky gas pedal issues and the company did not want to jeopardize its reputation. Brian Lyons, a spokesperson for the company said that the dealers have repaired the pedals and floor mats in almost 1.3 million cars recalled so far. Following some incidents of unwanted acceleration in its cars, Toyota has come under the scanner of the federal agencies and lawmakers.
Toyota has been asked by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to give new pedals to the customers to resolve the issue as fast as possible. If the customers are unhappy with the way the pedals on their recalled cars have been repaired they can ask the company to provide a new pedal. This will be provided free of cost. Toyota has chalked out more plans to appease the irate customers.
