in05_prius_29895f Tokyo, Feb 5 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Toyota has been plagued with defects in its cars, and has been involved in one recall after the other. The latest recall is for 270,000 units of Prius. And now the Toyota Motor Corp president Akio Toyoda has apologized for the recall of millions of vehicles around the world. “We’re extremely sorry to have made customers uneasy. We plan to establish the facts and give an explanation that will remove customers’ concerns as soon as possible.” Toyoda said on Friday.

Till last week, Toyota had recalled almost 7.5 million vehicles. And surprisingly this figure is almost the same as the number of Toyota vehicles sold worldwide in 2009. The other amazing bit is that, there have been no recalls in Japan, as Toyota uses a different parts supplier there. The auto industry experts weren’t at all satisfied with the late apology of the Toyota head, and said that he ought to have taken responsibility, and apologized much earlier.

Masaaki Sato, an auto industry expert who is also an author on books related to Toyota said that Toyota Motor Corp president Akio Toyoda should have apologized a week ago. And it now seems that he is making a forced apology.
