Toyota Announces Yet Another SUV Recall

Apr 29 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A brand new Toyota recall has been issued for the 2003 Sequoia, due to a problem with the Vehicle Stability Control system. The current software in the vehicle causes the acceleration to lag, but can reportedly be fixed with a new software upgrade. This comes after a long line of Toyota recalls. To check your Make and Model of Toyota and see if a recall has been issued, a link will be posted at the end of this article.
According to a statement released by Toyota concerning the new recall on the 2003 Sequoia, “In vehicles without the upgrade, the VSC system could activate at low speed for a few seconds after acceleration from a stopped position and, as a result, the vehicle may not accelerate as quickly as the driver expects.” They added that SUV owners should not be concerned by the latest Toyota recall (?) since there are no reported safety issues with the problem. Although they have received 96 complaints, apparently there have been no reported injuries or accidents from it.
Recalls have been very prevalent in Toyotas lately, with over 10 million vehicles being recalled This latest issue will effect about 50,000 SUV’s and concerns the acceleration, which has been an issue plaguing Toyota in many vehicles. First it was a sticky gas pedal, and now it is a software issue. It was even reported that Toyota was working with NASA to see if solar flares may be causing the problems. No matter what the real issue is, things do not look well for Toyota. This latest issue comes after major safety recalls for the Toyota Prius, Toyota Corolla, and Lexus GX 460. The automaker was also fined $16.4 million by the United States government. Sequoia owners will be contacted by the end of May and the problem will be fixed free of charge.
Basically, this all mean the Sequoia may not accelerate as fast as you’d expect it to. I would not advise Sequoia owner to try and pass other cars or pull out into traffic without a very clear shot, for a much longer distance than normal. If your car isn’t going to ‘go’, then you don’t want other cars to be speeding towards you. To find out if your Toyota is among the 10 million recalled so far, check here:
