Raipur, Jan 14 (IANS) Chhattisgarh Police said Friday that they had interrogated top officials of the government-run Hindustan Prefab Limited (HPL) on a cheating complaint filed against the firm by the mayor of Raipur.Raipur’s Additional Superintendent of Police Lal Umed Singh said a police team interrogated four high-ranked HPL officials, including its chairman-cum-managing director Jaiveer Shrivastava, Thursday night on a complaint filed by mayor Kiranmoyee Nayak accusing the company of taking advance money for a housing project but deliberately delaying execution of the work.

“We did not arrest the (Delhi-based HPL’s) CMD and three others but interrogated them and allowed to return to Delhi Friday only when they promised to co-operate us on the charges leveled against the company,” the police officer added.

Nayak said that she was forced to seek police intervention as the HPL was awarded Rs.392-crore contract by government here about four years ago for constructions of houses under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) and even got advance payment of about Rs.61 crore in two installments but it failed to start the project.
