Thousands protest caste certificate manipulation
November 11th, 2011 - 10:04 pm ICT by IANSBhubaneswar, Nov 11 (IANS) Thousands of tribals Friday staged a rally in an Odisha town seeking dismissal of government employees who allegedly got jobs by manipulating their caste certificates, police said.
Armed with traditional weapons and dancing down the road, the men and women staged the protest at the district headquarters town of Bolangir, around 330 km from here, a district police officer told IANS.
“Several years ago, we had submitted a list to the district administration providing details about those who secured jobs with the help of fake tribal caste certificates,” said Baladev Bhoi, a protest leader.
“If the government does not take action and dismiss them, we will intensify our agitation” he said.
Tribal people from about 10 western and southern districts participated in the rally.
