HOUSTON, TEXAS (BNO NEWS) –Texas was announced Thursday as the number one exporting state in the nation in 2009, Governor Rick Perry said.

For the eighth year in a row, Texas demonstrated its solid economic condition, due to its “low taxes, reasonable and predictable regulatory climate, and its skilled and educated workforce.”

Texas’ 2009 exports totaled more than $163 billion with its most important clients being Mexico, Canada, China, the Netherlands and Korea. The most exported Texas-manufactured goods were computers and electronics, chemicals, machinery, petroleum and coal, and transportation equipment.

Governor Perry applauded the Texas Enterprise Fund for helping attract businesses, jobs and investments, and the Texas Emerging Technology Fund, which is rolling millions of dollars through the Houston Technology Center into young companies.

According to Moody’s Economy, seven metropolitan areas in Texas are expected among the first to arise from the recession, as the state was ranked 2009 Best Business Climate by Business Facilities magazine. Texas also created more private sector jobs than any other state in the nation over the last 10 years, according to the Texas Workforce Commission, having the lowest unemployment rate among the 10 largest states in the nation.
