Teledensity in India touches 51.05 percent
March 29th, 2010 - 9:25 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, March 29 (IANS) India’s telecom density has risen to 51.05 percent after 18.76 million new phone connections were added in February this year, the telecom regulator said here Monday.
In January, the teledensity was 49.50 percent.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) said in the statement that the number of telephone connections reached 600.69 million in February from 581.97 million a month before.
“With this, the overall tele-density in India reached 51.05 percent,” TRAI said.
The subscriber base in wireless segment increased from 544.98 million in January to 563.73 million in February.
However, in the wireline segment it dropped to 36.96 million from 36.99 million in the same period.
The total broadband subscriber base increased from 8.03 million to 8.59 million, the statement added.
