Telecom growth due to government policy and entrepreneurship
September 14th, 2010 - 9:22 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Sep 14 (IANS) Communication and Information Technology Minister A. Raja Tuesday said the tremendous growth in the telecom sector has been made possible due to favourable government policies and initiatives of the telecom industry.
“It has been made possible by synergy of conducive government policies and the entrepreneurship zeal of telecom industry,” said Raja, inaugurating India Telecom 2010 with the theme “Broadband for All” which will kickstart on Dec 9.
India telecom 2010 is an international exhibition and conference on telecom sector jointly organised by the department of telecom and the federation of Indian chambers of commerce and industry (FICCI).
According to telecom regulatory authority of India, Indian telecom network became the second largest in the world with total subscriber base of over 670 million at the end of July 2010.
With this, the overall teledensity in the country has reached over 58 percent mark. In last five years not only urban tele-density has risen from 26 percent to more than 123 percent, but rural tele-density has also increased phenomenally from 1.73 percent to over 27 percent.
