Telcos given 6 months to get monitoring solution for 3G video calls
January 8th, 2011 - 12:28 am ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Jan 7 (IANS) The government is likely to send notices to telecom service providers in one week directing them to install interception solutions within six months for monitoring of services, including video calls, using the third generation (3G) spectrum. “The department of telecom (DoT) will be communicating with the telcos formally and sending them notices in the course of one week. The communication will ask them to put acceptable solutions in place in six months,” said a senior DoT official.
Earlier, the government had asked the operators to provide a compliance report on the security aspects of 3G services to the DoT.
Reliance Communications and Tata Teleservices are the operators who have launched their 3G services so far.
3G services offer features such as video-calling, mobile TV, video streaming and applications access at superfast internet speeds on a wide variety of both mobile phones and personal computing devices.
