ted1July 28, (THAINDIAN NEWS) While common people own houses and property that spread over acres, there are some who own lands of millions of acres. Forbes magazine is out with the names of top five land owners in America who own land not in the ratio of thousands but in that of millions of acres. The first five to lead the band of land barons are Ted Turner, Archie ‘Red’ Emmerson, Brad Kelley, Irving family and Singleton family respectively. Instead of counting land areas in thousands of and millions of acres, these land barons follow a different measurement technique and calculate their areas by taking the area of Rhode Islands as the primary unit. However, like many other billionaires, these land owners do not purchase land as a hobby, and rather take it as a serious business.

Ted Turner, who leads the list of top American landowners, owns 2 million acres in Mexico, Florida, Colorado, Montana, and many other states. The man boasts of owning Vermejo Park Ranch that lies in the border of New Mexico and Colorado. At second position, Archie Emmerson holds 1.9 million acres of timberland in Washington and California. Archie Emmerson was previously the biggest land owner in America with an estimated 2 million acres of land. However, this time it was Ted Turner who led the list.

A farmer’s son, Brad Kelley possesses 1.7 million acres of land in Texas, Florida and New Mexico. As per reports, the emerging land baron Brad Kelley’s representatives are in look out for ranches in Big Bend area of southwest Texas. As for the Irving family and the Singleton family, they own 1.25 million and 1.1 million acres of land. However, for all of them land property is a mode of investment and not a mere luxury.
