Technical snag hits Metro, frustrates commuters (Lead)
October 19th, 2010 - 11:30 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Oct 19 (IANS) Commuters travelling by the Delhi Metro had a harrowing experience Tuesday and they were trapped inside the train for almost an hour as a technical snag hit services on the Dwarka-Noida route, an official said.
As a problem occurred in the computerised signalling system, some of the trains stopped operation for an hour to avoid any kind of accident.
“I had to reach office for a very crucial meeting but I got late because of the Metro problem. We were trapped there for about an hour and it was frustrating. On top of all this, there was no mobile signal so I couldn’t even inform my office,” said Anuradha Bahri, a public relations officer.
Another commuter, Simar Singh was furious about the delay and termed it ‘poor management’ and ‘callousness’. “This is definitely not expected from Delhi Metro which has very high standards. I had to meet a client for a photoshoot before she left for Mumbai. But due to the snag, she had to cancel her flight and alter all her plans,” said the agitated fashion photographer.
However, some like Mayank Tyagi made good use of the break. “I slept late last night and the snag came as a pleasant reward for me as I got a short nap before reaching my shop. But I did feel bad for the office goers,” he said.
According to an official of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), regular announcements were made updating the passengers about the problem and the developments.
The interlocking problem resulted in loss of train identification numbers and bunching of trains on Line 3/4 - Dwarka-Noida/Anand Vihar, said a DMRC official.
According to the official, the technical snag affected train services between Moti Nagar station and R.K. Ashram station from 11.42 a.m. to 12.35 p.m. However, all the other lines remained unaffected.
