Technical snag hits Delhi Metro
June 1st, 2010 - 3:58 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, June 1 (IANS) Metro trains on the Dwarka-Noida route were delayed by at least 30 minutes during peak hours Tuesday morning due to a technical snag, an official said.
“A technical problem occurred on the route at 9 a.m.. The trains then ran at slower speed. The fault has been rectified,” a Delhi Metro Rail Corp (DMRC) official told IANS.
Metro trains operate on an automated system and each train has an identification number. With this, each train’s location is monitored by the Operational Control Centre (OCC).
The ID numbers of the trains operating on the route in the morning did not appear on the system. The trains were shifted from automated to manual mode, slowing down their speed, the official said.
“As the trains plied on a lesser speed, the other trains which were following had a delayed start. Hence, there was half an hour delay in the services,” the DMRC official said.
Delhi Metro makes over 1,900 trips on its five lines and covers a distance of 111 km.
By the October Commonwealth Games, the network will reach nearly all areas of the capital as well as suburbs like Gurgaon, covering nearly 190 km.
