Technical snag hits Delhi Metro
August 24th, 2010 - 4:33 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )New Delhi, Aug 24 (IANS) Delhi Metro services on the Central Secretariat-Jahangirpuri line were disrupted for over 30 minutes Tuesday morning after a train got stuck at a station due to a technical snag, an official said.
According to the Metro official, “The train going towards Central Secretariat got stuck at Rajiv Chowk station at around 11.30 a.m. as its pantograph, which provides electricity to the train, developed some technical fault.”
“The train could not move out of the station due to this, following which operations on the line were halted. A took 30 minutes to resume the services,” the official said.
Over a hundred passengers were stranded at the Rajiv Chowk station, he said.
“Today being Raksha Bandhan (festival), there were higher footfalls at Metro stations. The technical problem kept hundreds of commuters stranded at each station,” Anil Singh, a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) trooper, told IANS.
The Delhi Metro stretches to about 125 km and spans over 107 stations. On an average, the Metro carries about 1.15 million commuters on a week day. It is expected to carry over two million (20 lakh) commuters once its entire network of 190 km becomes operational by September.
