Tax department targets Rs.26,000 crore revenue from Bengal
June 8th, 2011 - 10:52 pm ICT by IANSKolkata, June 8 (IANS) The Income Tax department has targeted Rs.26,000 in tax collection from Bengal circle, including Sikkim and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, in the current financial year, a top official said Wednesday.
“We have targeted to collect net Income Tax of about Rs.26,000 crore from Bengal circle this fiscal,” B.S. Sondhi, chief commissioner Income Tax, told reporters on the sidelines of a programme organised by the Merchants’ Chamber of Commerce (MCC) here.
“In the last fiscal, our gross collection of Income Tax was Rs.22,000 crore, registering an increase of 20 percent compared to previous year. Net Income Tax collection was Rs.19,400 crore during FY11,” he said.
He said the largest contributor of Income Tax in the Bengal circle was the mining sector.
Informing that a Central Processing Centre (CPC) of Income Tax department would be set up in Kolkata, Sondhi said, “We will try to coordinate with the new West Bengal government for getting a good piece of land.”
The CPC is expected to be functional by December 2012, he added.
