Tata Motors closes March, full year with sales growth
April 1st, 2011 - 5:24 pm ICT by IANSChennai, April 1 (IANS) Auto major Tata Motors Ltd closed March with 11 percent sales growth over the comparable period the previous year.
The company’s total sales of commercial and passenger vehicles last month were 83,363 units (domestic 77,431 units, exports 5,932 units) — up from 75,129 units (domestic 71,024 units, exports 4,105 units) sold in March 2010.
According to the company, sales of commercial vehicles last month in the domestic market numbered 49,753 units (light commercial vehicles - LCV 26,416 units, medium and heavy M&HCVs; 23,337 units).
On the passenger vehicles side, the company has reported a total offtake of 29,543 units (Tata Motors 27,678 units, Fiat 1,865 units) in the domestic market last month as compared to 29,867 units (27,760 Tata + 2,107 Fiat) in March last year.
With the Tata range of vehicles last month, the company sold 8,707 units of Nano, logging an 85 percent growth over March 2010 numbers.
During the period under review, sales of the Indica and Indigo range of vehicles went down by 40 percent to 6,937 units and five percent to 7,197 units respectively.
On the other hand, the Sumo/Safari/Aria/Venture range accounted for sales of 4,837 units, higher by 24 percent over March last year.
Tata Motors closed the fiscal 2010-11 with a total sales of 803,322 units up from 642,664 units sold during the previous fiscal.
For the whole year, the domestic CV sales were 446,782 units (LCV 245,655 units, M&HCV; 192,127 units).
The cumulative sales and distribution offtake of passenger vehicles in the Indian market for last fiscal are 319,562 units (Tatas 298,486 units, Fiat 21,066 units) as against 259,656 units (Tata 234,929 units, Fiat 23,727 units) the previous fiscal.
With the Tata range of vehicles, Tata Motors last fiscal sold 70,432 units of Nano, up from 30,350 units sold the previous fiscal.
The cumulative sales of the Indica range at 97,845 units are lower by 14 percent while that of Indigo range was higher by 55 percent at 87,925 units.
Similarly, total sales of Sumo/Safari/Aria/Venture range numbered at 42,294 units, up by 26 percent compared to the previous year.

Last year, Tata Motors shipped out 58,044 units as against 34,141 units the previous year.
