The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) launches a project on traveling Chiang Mai in 72 hours with the objective to increase the number of tourists in the province.

TAT Deputy Governor for International Marketing Juthaporn Rerngronasa (จุฑาพร เริงรณอาษา) says the project, which is called “72 hours Amazing Thailand Chiang Mai,” is a collaboration between TAT and MasterCard Worldwide. It is the development of the previous “72 hours Amazing Thailand” project which has received good response from both Thai and foreign tourists. TAT therefore decided to promote each province of Thailand under the project, starting with the northern province of Chiang Mai.

“72 hours Amazing Thailand Chiang Mai” recommends stylish accommodations, restaurants, spas, health care centers, and 80 shopping places. The TAT selected Chiang Mai as it is deemed the beautiful gem of the Northern region and the center of old culture. The project is targeted at tourists from the middle to high income groups. Bankers from Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia have been invited to explore the tourism route of Chiang Mai with the TAT. The authority expects that they will help persuade their clients to visit the province after they returned to their respective countries.

“72 hours Amazing Thailand Chiang Mai” is scheduled from July 2008 to December 2009. MasterCard holders will receive five to 50 percent of discounts and other privileges from companies participated in the project.
