New York, May 25 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Employees of Target have started mounting pressure on the company as union battle seems to be on the horizon. Employees of Target in New York City are trying to unionize themselves and that have placed them on collision course with their employers who claim that their workers are better off compared to others.

United Food and Commercial Workers are leading the campaign to have the workers at the Target stores unionized. They have their eyes set on the about 5,000 employees that Target have in New York City. The New York Times say about 27 Target stores in the city have been targeted by UFCW.

The report stated that Target workers at Valley Stream, N.Y. have also embarked on a campaign to get unionized. The employees claim that their wage is not enough to take care of them and their family. Subsequently they want to apply pressure on the company to raise their wages.

Target denies that its wage is not adequate. The company said its wage remains competitive adding that their employees do not have to get unionized. The company’s wages and benefits remain relatively better when they are compared to rivals Wal-Mart.

Target has 1,755 stores all over the United States.
