Tamil Nadu officials to estimate rain damages
December 4th, 2010 - 3:26 pm ICT by IANSChennai, Dec 4 (IANS) The Tamil Nadu government has asked eight senior officials to survey nine districts affected by heavy rains, estimate the extent of damage and also take relief measures if needed, it was decided in a cabinet meeting here Saturday.
The meeting was chaired by Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi. Officials were asked to survey Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Villupuram, Tuticorin, Tirunelvelli, Pudukottai and Ramanathapuram districts Sunday and Monday and estimate the loss of lives, livestocks, crop, houses, roads and submit a report.
They will also look into the relief measures taken and check whether the compensation amount has been properly distributed. The cabinet will deliberate on the reports submitted by the officials Dec 7 and necessary actions will be taken.
The government has already announced Rs.100 crore towards relief operations in the first phase.
