Suzuki unveils new bike, scooter
January 5th, 2012 - 8:18 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )New Delhi, Jan 5 (IANS) Japanese auto major Suzuki Thursday launched a 110cc motorcycle Hayate and a 125cc scooter Swish, targeted at the youth.
Hayate is the third bike introduced by Suzuki Motorcycle India Private Limited (SMIPL) after the 125cc Slingshot and 150cc GS 150R.
“The Hayate marks our venture into the mass market motorcycle category. It is aimed at the first time motorcycle owner and people with regular commuting needs expecting good mileage from their machines,” SMIPL vice president (sales and marketing) Atul Gupta said at the Auto Expo here.
Gupta did not give its price, but said the bike would be “competitively priced”.
The Swish 125 would be the second scooter in the company’s portfolio, after Access, which also sports a 125cc engine.
“The Swish 125 is ideal for value seekers — young urban couples who look for mobility solutions that can complement their lifestyle. The sleek, aerodynamic design lowers the coefficient of drag, guaranteeing less air resistance and a smooth ride,” added Gupta.
Priced at Rs.45,431 (Ex-showroom, Delhi) the Swish 125 would be available by March this year.
Talking about the company’s growth plans, Gupta said: “The company would be increasing its annual capacity from the current 3.6 lakh units to 5.4 lakh units by 2013.”
SMIPL is the subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan.
The 11th edition of the Auto Expo, held at the sprawling Pragati Maidan exposition grounds, will conclude Jan 11.
