Suzlon Energy to set up wind turbines in Africa

Mumbai, May 25 (IANS) India’s wind turbine manufacturing major Suzlon Energy Wednesday said it has signed a contract with African Clean Energy Development (ACED) for supply and construction of 76 wind turbines of its 2 MW-series in South Africa.

AECD which is a joint venture between Africa Infrastructure Investment Managers, a company held by Old Mutual group South Africa and Macquarie Capital, and AFPOC Ltd will have the option to acquire additional 124 turbines for the Cookhouse Wind Energy Facility, the company said in a regulatory filing.

Cookhouse Wind Energy Facility is one of South Africa’s leading renewable energy projects, having received a position record of decision from the department of environment on May 22, 2010 for erection of up to 200 wind turbines.

At the Bombay Stock Exchange, the shares of the company closed up 1.22 percent at Rs.49.75.
