Chennai, June 8 (IANS) The Supreme Court Monday dismissed as withdrawn a special leave petition filed by MRF United Workers Union (UWU) against a Madras High Court order on a wage agreement.
“As the main matter will come up for hearing Tuesday in the Madras High Court, the Supreme Court dismissed our petition as withdrawn,” said V. Prakash, senior counsel for the union, over the phone from Delhi.

The UWU had earlier approached the Madras High Court appealing against its order giving permission to the MRF management to conclude a wage settlement with a rival union.

The high court May 19 had ordered the parties to maintain the status-quo subject to the MRF management taking a decision on the agreement it signed with another union.

The UWU has been on strike since May 9 following a wage pact that the MRF management had signed with a rival union.

The company declared a lockout at its Arakonam plant May 17, which was lifted May 27.

MRF officials were not available to comment on the strike.
