Strong companies kept hiring during slowdown: Genpact CEO

November 9th, 2009 - 3:19 pm ICT (UTC +0700) by IANS Tell a Friend -

New Delhi, Nov 9 (IANS) Back office service provider Genpact Monday said the companies that kept hiring during the economic slowdown were viewed as “strong” firms and would benefit from this perception when the economy begins recovering.
“People know that you (hiring companies) would look after them. You would not do a knee-jerk reaction, and I think that is very good,” Genpact India chief executive Pramod Bhasin told IANS here on the sidelines of the India Economic Summit of the World Economic Forum.

“Employees get to know that they work for a strong company and that is important,” Bhasin added.

He said Genpact had been growing even during the slowdown and made “substantial recruitment” during the period.

“There is no slowdown in hiring. This year, we hired 6,000-7,000 people across the globe. We would continue hiring next year also.”

Recruitment in India will be 75 to 80 percent of the company’s total global hiring, Bhasin said, adding that Genpact was eyeing acquisitions also to expand its operations.

“But we are conscious of valuation. We do look at sectors like finance and accounting, supply chain and healthcare.”

The company is looking at “good buys” in the US, Europe, India and China, he added.
