States order 11,185 buses
November 9th, 2009 - 4:08 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Nov 9 (IANS) Various states have ordered 11,185 buses to boost their urban transport systems under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).
The orders consist of AC low-floor, non-AC low-floor, semi low-floor buses and mini buses, a government statement said.
Maharashtra has placed order for 2,230 buses, followed by Delhi and Tamil Nadu with orders for 1,600 buses each.
Andhra Pradesh has ordered 1,540 buses for four cities - Hyderabad, Tirupati, Vijayawada and Vishakhapatnam.
Uttar Pradesh will get 1,350 buses, while West Bengal and Uttrakhand have ordered for 1,300 and 145 buses, respectively.
Kerala will purchase 320 buses.
Madhya Pradesh has placed orders for 175 buses, Chhattisgarh for 100 buses, Jharkhand for 240 buses, Rajasthan for 400 buses and Manipur for 25 buses.
Under the second stimulus package announced by the government Jan 2 this year, it had been decided that states would be provided assistance under the JNNURM for the purchase of buses in the form of grant.
