Washington, Oct 4 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Eatery giant Starbucks has launched an ambitious program to get some unemployed Americans working again. The “Jobs for USA” program is a collaboration between Starbucks and the Opportunity Finance Network. It is aimed at creating jobs for the unemployed in the United States.

The program will start from the 1st of November and Starbucks customers are asked to donate $5 towards the program. Starbucks say the amount realized from the donation will be entirely given to companies and firms as loans so that they could hire more people. The company believes the approach could help bring down the soaring unemployment rate.

In announcing the plan, the CEO of Starbucks, Howard Schultz, said that, “This is about using Starbuck’s scale for good.”

Starbuck has about 7,000 stores throughout the United States. It is estimated that millions of customers buy from Starbucks each day so the plan has the potential to generate millions of dollars in short time if it becomes successful. The companies failed however to state how much they expect to generate from the program.

Customers who will donate to the program will be given free wristband with the word “Indivisible.”

CEO of Opportunity Finance Network Mark Pinsky summarized the objective of the program when he said that, “We want to match up every person who has $5 to share with every person who can’t spare $5.”
