Sreedharan inspects proposed Faridabad Metro corridor
April 29th, 2011 - 11:45 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, April 29 (IANS) Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) managing director E. Sreedharan Friday inspected the proposed alignment of the Metro line to connect the national capital with Faridabad in neighbouring Haryana, an official said.
“Sreedhran’s inspection took place days after an empowered committee of the urban development ministry approved the project. The proposal now has to be approved by a empowered group of ministers,” DMRC spokesperson Anuj Dayal said.
He also said that the work on the extension is likely to begin immediately after the approval of the union cabinet.
The project is estimated to cost Rs.2,533 crore with the central government already having sanctioned Rs. 100 crore in the 2011-12 budget.
“The detailed project report prepared by DMRC for the proposed alignment line to Faridabad has been submitted to Haryana government and a draft Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has also been sent to them for approval,” Dayal added.
An extension of the existing Central Secretariat-Badarpur line, known as Line 6 or the Violet Line, the 13.8-km fully elevated corridor will have nine stations - Sarai Chowk, NHPC Chowk, Mewala Maharajpur, Sector 27 A, Badkal Mor, Faridabad Old, Ajronda, Faridabad New Town and YMCA Chowk.
According to Delhi Metro officials, the Haryana government has been eagerly waiting for the extension.
“Haryana has been keen on extending the Badarpur Line to YMCA Chowk in Faridabad as thousands of people travel from the city to the national capital every day,” Dayal informed.
Once the proposed line becomes operational, Faridabad will be the second Haryana city in the National Capital Region (NCR), after Gurgaon, to get connected to Delhi via the Metro. Gurgaon was added to the network in June 2010.
