Sreedharan finds plenty of faults with airport metro
March 29th, 2011 - 10:00 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, March 29 (IANS) Delhi Metro chief E. Sreedharan Tuesday took a surprise inspection of the Airport Express line and found plenty of faults — from frequency and passenger amenities.
After spending over three hours inspecting the 23-km line, he demanded that the present frequency of one-train-every-20-minutes needed to change.
According to Metro spokesman Anuj Dayal, Sredharan wanted the maximum speed of the train to go up to 120 km and underlined that all these issues should be sorted out at the earliest.
Presently, the New Delhi Railway Station to Dwarka Sector 21 network touches the Indira Gandhi International airport running at a maximum speed of 105 km an hour.
Sreedharan pointed out that there were hardly any tea and coffee vending machines and sought refreshment kiosks at all stations.
The Metro chief said there were no proper signs at the stations and mobile connectivity was missing in the underground sections.
He also found fault with announcements in the trains and at the stations.
Built at a cost of Rs.5,700 crore, the line has six stations, two of which are not operational.
