New Delhi, Feb 25 (IANS) Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee Friday offered special concessions for the physically challenged and mediapersons.”At present, physically handicapped persons are not entitled for concessions on Rajdhani and Shatabdi trains. It is proposed to extend the concession facility to them in these trains also,” Banerjee said while presenting her third budget in the Lok Sabha.
She also promised better accessibility at stations for the physically challenged.
Looking at the press gallery above the Lok Sabha speaker Meira Kumar and addressing journalists directly, Banerjee announced concession for them.
“Press correspondents are now entitled to avail to 50 percent concession with family once in a year. It is proposed to increase this facility to twice a year,” she said, as the opposition benches hooted her.
Banerjee Friday presented the rail budget for 2011-12, promising to move to build a stronger railroad infrastructure while addressing the needs of the average passengers by not increasing the fare.
