Southwest Airlines responds to possible WestJet deal with Delta Airlines
April 2nd, 2010 - 3:38 am ICT by BNO News ( Leave a comment )DALLAS, TEXAS (BNO NEWS) – Southwest Airlines responded on Thursday to WestJet intentions of entering into a codeshare agreement with Delta Airlines, which would be inconsistent with deals previously made with Southwest.
Southwest learned of a deal by which Delta would transfer slots at LaGuardia Airport in New York to WestJet, which as indicated in media reports, could be inconsistent with the agreement presently in place between Southwest and WestJet.
“The Southwest/WestJet project was on target in accordance with a mutually agreed upon timetable,” said Bob Jordan, Southwest’s Executive Vice President of Strategy and Planning. “However, WestJet in recent weeks requested material and significant changes to our agreement that we could not accept. We are, and always have been, prepared to move forward to implement our agreement with WestJet.”
Southwest went on to indicate that they have had no reason to assume that their deal with WestJet had been terminated, but if it had, they would remain loyal to their Canadian customers.
