South Africa good market for Indian hand embroidery, kids wear: Designer
April 21st, 2011 - 8:41 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, April 21 (IANS) South Africa can be a good market for Indian garment manufacturers, says designer J.J. Schoeman who feels hand embroidery and designer children’s wear can spell big profits for them.
“The South African market can pose a very good opportunity for Indian garment exporters in the area of hand embroidery work. It offers an edge to them as the fabric like georgette, chiffon are easily available in India at a rate that is much lower than the rate prevailing in South Africa,” Schoeman, who is from South Africa, said at a seminar here Thursday.
The seminar, on “Value Added Garments Exports to South Africa”, was organised by the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC), the apex body of apparel exporters of India.
The seminar was part of AEPC’s initiative to update the apparel industry stakeholders about various global exporting opportunities and fashion trends prevailing in developed markets.
Pointing to a huge market for designer children’s wear in South Africa, Schoeman said: “It will be a very big market and shall provide wide opportunities for manufacturers of kids’ garments to enter the South Africa.”
AEPC secretary general Vimal Kirti Singh too felt South Africa can offer good growth opportunities for Indian garment exporters.
“The South African market looks very promising for Indian garment exporters. With cost competitiveness and the quality product capabilities, Indian garment manufactures can occupy a good chunk of high-end garment market in South Africa,” he said.
