The residents of USA who would now apply for Social security and other benefits after may next year will be receiving their checks online and no post will be sent to them. It was confirmed by Department of the Treasury. The people who already get these benefits will have to opt for some other ways to keep receiving their checks. Richard L. Gregg the Treasury Fiscal Assistant Secretary said “”Eight in 10 federal benefit recipients already use direct deposit, and now millions of additional retirees, veterans and other Americans will also receive their money in the safest, most reliable way, electronically”. This change will ensure that US taxpayers will get exemption from paying yearly $120 million with paper checks.

The treasury has said that it is about to commence an education campaign for making people aware of the paperless transition foe social security and other benefits. The recipients of social security are asked to make the switch as soon as they can and it will ensure the checks do not get stolen or lost. Apart from that they would be able to get the money on the payment day itself, explained the Commissioner of Social Security Michael J. Astrue. Apart from Social security the change will affect the benefits like Office of Personnel Management payments, Supplemental Security Income, Railroad Retirement Board and Veterans Affairs.

The Obama administration is keen on making the majority of government benefit elated payments electronic by the year 2013. The government will save around $48 million per year in postage.
