New Delhi, June 7 (IANS) Travellers on Delhi Metro’s Jahangirpuri-Gurgaon line had a harrowing experience Tuesday afternoon when a train remained stuck in a tunnel for close to an hour following power failure.

According to a Delhi Metro official, the train was held up in the tunnel 20 metres from the Chawri Bazaar station.

“Metro services on Jahangirpuri to HUDA City Centre were affected because of the tripping of the power supply from the Gas Turbine Power Station (GTPS) at the Indraprastha Power Generation Company which provides power to this Metro corridor,” Delhi Metro spokesperson Anuj Dayal said.

Passengers had to wait for about 50 minutes after the train stopped in the tunnel around 3 p.m., he added.

Speaking to IANS, director of Delhi Fire Service (DFS) A.K. Sharma said: “We got a call at about 3.27 p.m. saying that there was a blast at the Chawri Bazaar Metro station. Immediately, seven fire tenders were rushed to the spot, but we got to know that it was a technical snag.”

Delhi Metro confirmed that there was no sparking or blast.
