Snag hits many Delhi Metro trains (Lead)
July 2nd, 2011 - 5:48 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, July 2 (IANS) A technical snag slowed down Delhi Metro trains Saturday in one of its lines, causing hardship to passengers.
The problem affected the Violet line, which links Badarpur in south Delhi to the Central Secretariat in the heart of the capital.
All trains on the route were operated manually from 10 a.m. after the location of one train could not be determined, a Metro official said.
Thus, instead of the usual 80 km per hour speed, the trains ran at 35-40 kmph, causing delays.
Commuter Mohammad Rashid, who boarded the train at Jasola Apollo station in south Delhi, said he spent over an hour travelling in the Metro instead of the usual 25 minutes.
Surya Jha, another commuter, added: “It was too problematic. At every station the train stopped for more than five minutes.”
Delhi Metro said that determining the exact problem took a long time and work was on to restore normalcy.
Delhi Metro runs around 2,000 train trips and ferries 16 lakh passengers every day.
