October 15th, 2009 - 6:30 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Chandigarh, Oct 15 (IANS) Sky dining is going to be the high point of the Chandigarh National Crafts Mela that kicks off here Oct 24 to Nov 2.
The unique ’sky restaurant’ will provide an opportunity to visitors to relish their cuisine at a height of around 160 feet above ground level, said Ram Niwas, home-cum cultural affairs secretary of the union territory, here Thursday.
“The sky restaurant in Kalagram (venue of crafts mela) would accommodate maximum 22 people at a time. It will be one of the biggest attractions of the event and people can enjoy the delicious food amid the splendid view,” he added.
The 10-day crafts mela is being organized on the lines of Haryana’s Surajkund Mela.
Director cultural affairs R.S. Verma told IANS: “We were working for a long time to introduce this concept in Chandigarh. A Delhi based catering company has been roped in for the project.”
“A German company has provided the machinery and technical know-how. The guests will be taken to the restaurant with the help of a strong hydraulic machine. High-powered compressors are fitted in the machine and everything has been tested beforehand so it is cent percent safe,” said Verma.
