Mumbai, March 7(IANS) Chennai-based infrastructure and transportation company Sical Logistics Ltd started its first container train operation from Madhya Pradesh to Rajasthan. The company Friday said that through its subsidiary Sical Multimodal And Rail Transport (SMART), which has obtained category-I license (Rs.50 million), will be running and connecting container trains across the country for both export-import (EXIM) and domestic traffic.
In its first container train shipping, 86 containers of copper concentrate for Hindustan Copper Ltd were ferried from Hatta railway station in Balaghat district in Madhya Pradesh to copper company’s factory in Rajasthan Thursday.
Informing the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), the company said SMART will also be transporting goods of Hindustan Copper Ltd to and from Ghatsila (in Jharkhand) and Khetri (Rajasthan) apart from providing last mile connectivity to the copper firm’s factory at Taloja, near Mumbai.
Chairman of Sical Logistics, Ashwin C. Muthiah, talking of company’s future plans said: “We intend to develop island container depots (ICDs) and container freight stations (CFS) at strategic locations in the form of hub and spoke model in the next five years. The rail-road terminal hub would be adjacent to special economic zone (SEZ) near the Multimodal International Hub Airport at Nagpur (MIHAN).”
The company also has plans to invest in high-speed flat container wagons, lugging 20-foot containers at 100 km per hour.
