Sibal’s comment on audit report improper: Joshi

Bharatiya Janata Party Guwahati, Jan 8 (IANS) Public Acounts Committee Chairman Murli Manohar Joshi Saturday termed as “not right” Communications Minister Kapil Sibal’s remark that the audit report on auction of second generation (2G) telecom spectrum was erroneous.”It was not right for a minister to make a statement like this about a report which the Public Accounts Commitee is looking at,” Joshi, who is also a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party, said here.

“It seems the minister may not have read the entire report,” said Joshi at his party’s two-day National Executive meet here, that kicked off Saturday.

The comment came a day after Sibal slammed the report of Comptroller and Auditor General of India and said the methodology used was “utterly erroneous” in pegging Rs.1.76 lakh crore as the loss for awarding airwaves for 2G phone services without an auction.

Sibal had also criticised the opposition for disrupting the entire winter session of parliament and spreading what he called “utter falsehood” on the matter. He said the BJP-led government had framed the policy and his government merely followed it.
