Sensex up 0.78 percent in noon trade (Lead)

Sensex Mumbai, Sep 22 (IANS) A key index of the Indian equities market was ruling 0.78 percent higher than its previous close about an hour after noon Tuesday after having opened only marginally higher.
At 12.40 p.m., the sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened marginally higher at 16,805.22 points against Friday’s close at 16,741.3 points, was ruling 130.08 points or 0.78 percent higher at 16,871.38 points.

Around the same time, the S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE), too was trading in the positive terrain at 5,009.8 points, up 0.68 percent.

Broader market indices were faring better, with the BSE midcap index trading 0.67 percent higher and the BSE smallcap index moving up 1.01 percent.

Other important Asian markets were in the red.

The Nikkei, a key index of the Tokyo Stock Exchange, closed 73.26 points or 0.7 percent lower at 10,370.54 points.

At the Shanghai Stock Exchange, the benchmark SSE composite was ruling 2.34 percent down at 2,897.55 points.

However, the primary index of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, Hang Seng, was in the green at 21,570.46 points, up 97.61 points or 0.45 percent.
