Sensex surges 469 points (Second Lead)

Mumbai, Oct 13 (IANS) A benchmark index of Indian equities Wednesday closed a whopping 469 points higher, with heavyweight scrips leading the uptrend.
The 30-share sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 20,223.45 points, closed at 20,672.58 points, up 469.24 points or 2.32 percent from its previous close at 20,203.34 points.
The Sensex had climbed 500 points to an intra-day high of 20,703.97 points.
At the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the 50-share S&P CNX Nifty was trading at 6,231.5 points, up 2.31 percent.
Broader markets also ended in the green with the BSE midcap index closing 1.02 percent higher and the BSE smallcap index 1.07 percent up.
