Sensex soars 300 points in noon trade (Lead)

Sensex Mumbai, Oct 13 (IANS) A benchmark index of Indian equities Wednesday shot up 300 points in noon trade, with heavyweight scrips leading the uptrend.

The 30-share sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 20,223.45 points, was ruling at 20,504.81 points, up 301.47 points or 1.49 percent from its previous close at 20,203.34 points.

At the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the 50-share S&P CNX Nifty was trading at 6,179.3 points, up 1.45 percent.

Broader markets were also in the green with the BSE midcap index ruling 0.92 percent higher and the BSE smallcap index 1.12 percent up.

Out of the 30 Sensex stocks, 29 were on the gainers side, while the lone loser at this time was NTPC.

All 13 sectoral indices on the BSE were in the green with IT, telecom, realty and FMCG stocks leading the gainers pack.

The market breadth was positive with 1,998 stocks advancing, 854 declining and 102 remaining unchanged.

Other Asian markets were, however, not supportive.

Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was ruling flat at 23,122.28 points, while the Japanese Nikkei was ruling 0.16 percent up at 9,403.51 points.

The Shanghai Composite index also saw modest gains, rising 0.26 percent at 2,848.92 points.

Overnight, the Dow rose 10 points to stay above the psychological 11,000 mark.
