Sensex slips from opening highs

Mumbai, May 20 (IANS) A benchmark index for Indian equities Thursday slipped from its opening highs to rule about 73 points higher than its previous close, about an hour into trade.
The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 16,419.1 points, was ruling at 16,481.6 points, 73.11 points or 0.45 percent up from its previous close at 16,408.49 points.
At the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the broader 50-share S&P CNX Nifty was ruling at 4,938.35 points, up 0.38 percent from its previous close.
Broader markets were however flat, with the BSE midcap index ruling 0.04 percent up and the BSE smallcap index 0.28 percent higher.
