Sensex rises 55 points in choppy session

Mumbai, Feb 16 (IANS) A benchmark index for Indian equities markets was trading 55 points higher in a lacklustre session Wednesday. The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened almost flat at 18,273.06 points, was trading at 18,329.24 points in the afternoon session, up 0.30 percent or 55.44 points from the previous close at 18,273.8 points.
The benchmark Sensex touched a high of 18,349.17 points and low of 18,216.12 points in intraday trading so far.
The 50-scrip S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange was trading at 5,502.15 points, up 0.39 percent or 21.15 points.
Broader markets were also in the positive. The BSE midcap index was up 0.57 percent and the BSE smallcap index was trading over one percent higher.
