Sensex ends marginally up in volatile trade (Lead)May 25th, 2009 - 6:29 pm ICT by IANS
Mumbai, May 25 (IANS) A key index of Indian equities markets closed marginally higher Monday after slipping into the red in the afternoon session.
The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 13,988.1 points, ended at 13,913.22 points - 26.07 points or 0.19 percent above Friday’s close.
The index gained 141 points around noon to touch 14,028 points, but shed the gains in the afternoon and touched a low of 13,819 points.
The S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) ended in the red, shedding 0.02 percent to close at 4,237.55 points.
Broader market indices, however, closed higher, with the BSE midcap index ending trade 2.83 percent up, and the BSE smallcap index gaining 5.01 percent.
