Sensex ends 36 points down (Second Lead)

Mumbai, Jan 15 (IANS) A benchmark index of Indian equities ended 36 points lower Friday, bringing an end to a lacklustre day of trading.
The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 17,604.31 points, closed at 17,548.73 points (provisional) — down 36.14 points or 0.21 percent from its previous close at 17,584.87 points.
At the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the broader 50-share S&P CNX Nifty ended at 5,250.9 points, against its previous close at 5,259.9 points, a loss of nine points or 0.17 percent.
Broader market indices also gave up some of the gains but still ended in the green, with the BSE midcap index ending 0.24 percent up and the BSE small cap index 0.32 percent higher.
The market breadth was tilted towards the negative with 1,514 stocks declining compared to 1,406 advancing and 71 remaining unchanged.
