Sensex down 75 points, broader markets flat

Sensex Mumbai, April 11 (IANS) Indian equities markets were trading weak Monday morning with a benchmark index down about 75 points and broader market indices ruling flat.

The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 19,382.91 points, was ruling at 19,376.02 points — down 75.43 points or 0.39 percent from its previous close at 19,451.45 points.

The 50-scrip S&P; CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange was trading 0.4 percent lower at 5,818.4 points.

Broader markets were ruling dull, with the BSE midcap index down 0.22 percent and the BSE small cap index trading flat.

FMCG and IT stocks saw some gains, while realty, auto and energy scrips were among the major losing sectors at this time.

Among major gainers on the Sensex were Tata Power, ITC, BHEL and Reliance Infra while the losers included DLF, HDFC Bank, ONGC and Jindal Steel.

The market breadth was mixed with 1,148 stocks advancing, 1,172 on the decline and 84 remaining unchanged.

Asian markets were trading mixed.

The Japanese Nikkei average was ruling 0.54 percent lower at 9,715.08 points, while the Shangahi composite index of the Chinese stock exchanges was up 0.77 percent at 3,053.24 points.

The Hang Seng of the Hong Kong stock exchange was flat at 24,397.44 points.
