Sensex declines 31 points, realty, capital goods stocks down

Sensex Mumbai, July 26 (IANS) A benchmark index of Indian equities markets Thursday was trading 31 points down in afternoon trade as selling continued in realty and capital goods stocks.

The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 16,887.84 points, was ruling at 16,814.41 points, 0.19 percent or 31.64 points down from its previous day’s close at 16,846.05 points.

The BSE realty index was down 20.72 points, followed by capital goods index, down 96.35 points.

The wider 50-scrip S&P; CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange was ruling 0.16 percent down at 5,101.50 points.

The main losers were Tata Motors, down 1.22 percent at Rs.210.35; Wipro, down 1.14 percent at Rs.335.15; Infosys, down 1.01 percent at Rs.2,145.80; Larsen and Toubro, down 0.99 percent at Rs.1,328.40; and SBI, down 0.83 percent at Rs.2,053.45.

The major Sensex gainers were Sun Pharma, up 2.78 percent at Rs.626.80; Dr Reddy’s Lab, up 1.65 percent at Rs.1,641; Maruti Suzuki, up 1.64 percent at Rs.1,121; Bajaj Auto, up 1.56 percent at Rs.1,586.05; and Jindal Steel, up 1.22 percent at Rs.401.60.

Trading in other Asian markets was mixed. Japan’s Nikkei was up 0.92 percent while Shanghai’s composite index fell 0.48 percent. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was down 0.13 percent.
