Sensex creeps up further to intra-day high (Lead)

Mumbai, Aug 2 (IANS) A benchmark index for Indian equities moved further up in afternoon trade Monday to touch an intra-day high of 18,083.28 points as banking, metal and consumer durables stocks saw healthy buying.
The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 17,911.31 points, was trading at 18,067.66 points, 199.37 points or 1.12 percent up from its previous close at 17,868.29 points.
It touched an intra-day high of 18,083.28 points, rising about 215 points from its previous close.
At the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the broader 50-share S&P CNX Nifty was ruling 1.08 percent up at 5,425.5 points.
Broader markets indices were also in the green with the BSE midcap index 0.99 percent up and the BSE smallcap index trading 0.9 percent higher.
